Chabad of Solano County has secured the use of Touro University on Mare Island for a unique Jewish summer camp.
Chabad, an umbrella organization that runs educational, religious and social services in the county, can expand its summer youth experience called Camp Gan Israel, Rabbi Chaim Zaklos said.
"Last year we had it run out of our congregation in Vacaville. It was very successful, but to take it to the next level, we needed a place with beautiful grounds," Zaklos said.
Touro University is a Jewish-sponsored private school and will provide a perfect setting for the camp, he said.
"We are so excited that another Jewish organization is so gracious to us and that we can work together to make this possible," Zaklos said.
Those participating in the camp will have access to an indoor gym, game room, kosher kitchen, theater, bunkrooms and more.
The local camp is part of a world-wide network of annual programs in which more than 190,000 children participate.
The Solano County camp will be held June 27 to July 1 for children age 5 to 12 to learn Jewish values in an entertaining setting that includes sports, art, songs, baking and drama.
