  • Miriam Leah

  • Hello, my name is Miriam Leah. Recently after suffering from a brain injury I have dedicated myself to Judaism. I have dedicated myself to torah and started taking on as many mitzvahs possible. The past month I have taken of those of shabbos, modesty, and kosher. This is my story of how Hashem spoke to me through this injury made me more religious and what has inspired me wanting to go to Israel.

On October 27, 2015 I was playing on my High School's Varsity Tennis team when I was hit in the left occipital lobe of my head and suffered a severe concussion and a traumatic brain injury that left me with memory loss and permanent brain damage. Because of the damage to my left occipital lobe, I lose convergence in my left eye, suffered permanent vision impairment, damage to the neurons that retrieve memories, and still have trouble processing information, retaining long term memories, logical problem solving, and rationalizing information.

I spent the next three months in my room with no stimulus, including no light or sound, and in rehab to try and recover convergence in my eyes. I was depressed, lonely, and questioning why. I turned to my neshama and Hashem in these days.

At first, my conversations with Hashem were mostly me crying and asking him why he could let this happen to me but they soon turned into daily conversations and him giving me signs that everything will be okay and I just might have a different path now in my life. I struggled through the rest of my school year but everyday I learned another lesson and was brought closer to G-d.

I now see that Hashem put me through this enormous challenge in my life to open my eyes to the beauty of life outside a textbook and the happiness Judaism can bring me. In my darkest hours, it was Hashem, and the hope I received from talking to him, that got me out of my depression and helped me gain a new sense of existence. I now firmly believe that this injury is one of the best things that has happened to me.

After all that has happened the past two years medically and the amount of specialists, doctors appointments and rehab I have gone through in the past year, my parents are unable to pay for my trip to Israel.

I would greatly appreciate any donations.

    Thank you.

  • What Miriam Leah will be doing with your Sponsorship

Organized by Chabad HQ, the CTeen Heritage Quest is part of an accredited summer program that offers a unique 22-day trip to Poland and Israel for teens. This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the roots of their Jewish heritage at the source.

The group will spend six days visiting many sites of past Jewish presence in Poland, such as cemeteries, ghettos, and synagogues. Teens will explore firsthand what was once one of the largest and most significant Jewish communities in the world.

In addition, the trip will give teens a chance to see the devastating effects World War II had on this once vibrant Jewish community by visiting concentration camps and Holocaust memorial sites. From Poland, the group will travel to Israel and discover the significance of our Jewish homeland and contemporary Jewish life.

Teens will learn and absorb an authentic Jewish approach to tragedy, loss, and the keys to emerging from hardship with a stronger and bolder allegiance to our Jewish future, as well as strengthen their commitment to live as proud Jews.

*The cost of this program excluding airfare is $4,995 *

Please help Miriam Leah fulfill her dream of exploring her Jewish roots.
