Chabad of Solano County offering class on learning Hebrew
Chabad of Solano County is offering a free Hebrew Reading Crash Course that is open to everyone in the Jewish community. The course is designed to teach those with no basic knowledge of the Hebrew language how to read Hebrew in five easy lessons.
For many Jews, the inability to read Hebrew and understand the traditional synagogue services is a barrier to active participation in Jewish life. By teaching them to read Hebrew and making them feel comfortable in synagogues, Chabad of Solano County hopes to open the door to Jewish growth.
"This contemporary and engaging format has already worked for over 200,000 people around the world," says Aidel Zaklos, the instructor. "While most other languages require significant time and dedication to master, one can easily become a proficient reader of Hebrew in just five lessons."
The five-week Hebrew Reading Crash Course is geared toward "Jewish beginners," as well as those who feel left out during synagogue services, unable to follow or appreciate the liturgy. The course begins with learning the Hebrew alphabet and covers basic reading skills, preparing the participant for the experience of reading and understanding the prayer book and other Jewish texts. Those who complete the course will be able to read Hebrew and gain a rudimentary understanding of some prayers in their original language.
The course will take place on five consecutive Mondays from 7:30 to 9 p.m., beginning Monday in Vacaville. The classes and course materials are free, but participants must commit to attending all five classes.
