Chabad of Solano County and StandWithUs will present "Israel — Separating Fact from Fiction," a series of five lectures in five weeks on "the only true democracy in the Middle East."

"Learn about America's closest ally in one of the world's most dangerous neighborhoods. Even if you have always loved Israel and the Jewish people, you may be starting to doubt yourself under the weight of the bias against the Jewish state," organizers said in a flier announcing the lectures. "But you are not wrong. Each speaker will offer different truths about Israel's past, present and future you may not hear in the mainstream media. The goal is to provide you with the information and tools you need to defend Israel on your own on campuses and the community."

The lectures will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on five consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning Jan. 29 at the Missouri Street Theatre, 1125 Missouri St., Fairfield.

The lineup:

* Jan. 29: Israel 101: Top Ten Myths About Israel and Zionism. Nico Black (web marketing manager from Jerusalem and StandWithUs volunteer);

* Feb. 5: Advocacy Training with Matthew White (Pacific Northwest and Northern California campus coordinator, StandWithUs) and Dr. Mike Harris (StandWithUs/San Francisco Voice for Israel), Learn How to Advocate for Israel;

* Feb. 12: Israel's Contributions to Humanity. Gideon Lustig (deputy consul general, Consulate of Israel for the Pacific Northwest);

* Feb. 19: Anti-Israel Activism and Anti-Semitism on California Campuses (Roberta Seid, Ph.D, director of Research-Education, StandWithUs); and

* Feb. 26: Bias Against Israel in the Media. Gary Kenzer (Honest Reporting).

Cost is $30 for full course or $10 each class, drop-in.
